When you have the time, read the IE Security Exploit article above. Questions about it...let me know.
Last month I introduced SiteAdvisor as another tool to help protect your computer from malicious web sites. Since then, I have to say it is a great tool and works great in whatever browser you are using.
Because of my involvement in repairing computers and fixing systems that have been invaded by malicious code or spyware, I have decided to focus on security. Without it, we would constantly be subject to problems that not only would effect our computer, but our privacy, which can come at a cost to us.
If you have more then one user on your computer, keep in mind that a security breach may not be an action that you took, rather another user (such as a family member) on your computer. If this happens, generally a security breach would effect all users on that computer and possible other computers on your network. So, it is vital that you stay informed and take precautions that protect you and the other users on your system(s).
During the month of April, I will send out several newsletters with tips on keeping your system safe. For starters, you should do a port scan on your computer. Below is an URL which will probe your computer for holes (not literally of course :-) ). Here is what you will do: Open a browser window and go to: https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 and click on the button "Proceed". If you get a security warning, click "continue". We will now scan "Common Ports" by clicking on the Common Ports button. Your computer will now be scanned for open ports. If the test fails and you do not know what to do, you are welcome to email me (and I strongly suggest you do!). Please give me the following information: What port is failing (it will either be open or closed). A passed test will show all ports "Stealth". Remember this is your first layer of security and an important one!
